It should be pointed out that the legislation to be changed will apply to terroristic-folks with dual citizenship. So not only will divided loyalties be welcomed, those who want to divide other Canadians in half will be forgiven as well. Indeed, the only way a citizenship can be revoked is by a slip of the tongue. If you misrepresent yourself to a bureaucrat while applying for Canadian citizenship, you are a goner. But if you come in pouring forth goodwill and bonhomie, then later turn to terrorism and spew blood and guts, while settling into your new country, that’s ok, you are a keeper.
Seriously, what’s his principle here? That Canadian citizenship is to be debased to the lowest common denominator, that no standards of fidelity or loyalty to one’s new country be necessary? What message does this send to law-abiding new-to-the-country Canadians? Why should anyone care a whit for a country if that country, as demonstrated by its leader, doesn’t care a bit for itself?
Justin Trudeau’s standards are weird and wildly inconsistent. He embraces kids’ gone-off-the-grid-into-violence into the bosom of the country, but if you are a pro-lifer, who doesn’t believe in abortion except in special circumstances, you have no place in his Liberal Party. You gotta promise to believe and vote pro-abortion “Pro Choice” to be a member of his party. So it’s OK for him to set standards for his clan, but to have no standards for the wider Canadian entity. Then again, the Canadian Liberal Party has always deemed itself la crème de la crème - above and beyond mere Canadians; their new leader reflects this.
The Liberals have a mantra for this acceptance of terrorists born in other countries who end up gaining Canadian citizenship: a Canadian is a Canadian. They fear having two levels of citizenship, where duals, unlike native-born people, could face banishment to their original homelands if they blew up a province or two, say...
But “A Canadian is a Canadian” is less a defensible philosophy than it is a sappy slogan. So, even if someone wants to destroy Canada, all is OK, hey, we’ll keep you KILLER, and not deport you to your land of birth. This is “tolerance” and “inclusivity” taken to their most ludicrous levels. (Of course, if you are a western Canadian, an Albertan, who believes in pipelines, and selling your oil, heavy oil, or natural gas to other parts of Canada, or to the world, via such pipelines you are a global-cooling, NO, global-warming, NO, CLIMATE CHANGE denier, worthy of derision and ridicule.)
Who, specifically, benefits from Trudeau’s dual-citizen-gone-traitor here forever and a day, play? Zakaria Amara, for one. He was born in Jordan, came to Canada and became the leader of the “Toronto 18” a group who planned to set off bombs on the Toronto Stock Exchange and on the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) – a vitally fundamental economic institution and a (used to be ) viscerally iconic, well regarded, Canadian security entity.
To be fair to Trudeau, his insane permissiveness and let bygones-be-bygones attitude seems to permeate much of Canadian society. Legally there, things are bat-s—t crazy. Heard of Vince Li? He was on a bus and beheaded a man, fellow passenger, Timothy McLean in 2008. Experts said Li was sick in the head. Now the professionals say he’s feeling better, has changed his name, and that’s good enough for authorities – he’s been granted more freedom to live a (relatively) independent life outside of confinement.
This is not the Onion, this is not satire. You, seriously, cannot make this stuff up.
